Stock - Stock Valuations

Written by Michael Mulligan
Updated this week

A stock valuation is a snapshot of the monetary value of stock held in a warehouse at a specific point in time. Navigate to Stock β†’ Valuations to view and generate valuation records, or click Reports from the Warehouses screen to access the valuation report for a specific warehouse.

The Stock Valuations Screen

The screen lists all existing valuation records. Each row shows: Entity (the warehouse being valued), Valuation (name or reference), Period (year or month), Opening (opening stock value for the period), Closing (closing stock value for the period), Description. Use filters to narrow by warehouse or period type.

Generating a Stock Valuation

Click New Valuation to create a valuation snapshot. Select the warehouse, the valuation period type (year or month), and the reporting date. The system calculates stock value based on current inventory quantities and product costs. Save the record to lock the snapshot.

Reading a Valuation

A valuation shows the opening and closing stock value for the selected period. The difference between these figures reflects net stock movement during the period β€” inflows from purchase order receipts and positive adjustments, minus outflows from dispatches and negative adjustments.

Use the Opening and Closing values when reconciling stock movement across reporting periods.

Connection to COGS

Stock valuations feed directly into the Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) reconciliation process. When preparing end-of-period accounts, use the valuation report to extract the opening and closing stock figures required for the income statement. See Admin - Accounting For COGS for the full reconciliation workflow.
